ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Donald W. Haynes is a retired United Methodist clergy with over 50 years in the ministry, and currently serves as a Lifelong Trustee of High Point University and active Chairman of Academic Affairs.  As a graduate of High Point University and Duke University Divinity School, he received his first appointment at the age of 19 and earned his honorary Doctor of Divinity from Pfeiffer University.  Dr. Haynes became a full-time parish minister, served as the Conference Director of Ministry, a District Superintendent, and continued to serve several churches during retirement. As a distinguished United Methodist lecturer, he received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award for igniting others into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition, he was Director of Wesleyan Studies and taught at Hood Theological Seminary for 16 years. He has published 7 books on biblical studies, Methodist history and doctrine, and Singing our Faith, a book on hymn stories. He also was a bi-weekly columnist for The United Methodist Reporter for 15 years.  Dr. Haynes was married to his late wife for 60 years, and has three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. His hobbies are writing, woodwork, and yard work.
